The first weekend of baseball is in the books. Great weekend of baseball that saw some exciting things to get the season rolling.
Opening Day saw Logan Webb and Gerritt Cole duel and both record double digit strikeouts in a game that also saw Aaron Judge hit the first HR of the MLB season.
Yesterday saw Trout and Ohtani go back to back for the first time, with monster shots, of what will likely be several times this season.
Trayce Thompson hit 3 HR’s Saturday night.
Tampa, Minnesota and Texas all started 3-0 in the AL while the NL has no team that went undefeated the first weekend.
Fantasy wise some players got off to great starts while others started cold. It is WAY too early to panic. Trust your draft.
Also though, look at the waiver wire. You wont find a time where a player can make more impact on your roster than right now. Here are some targets to look at that might still be available in your leagues.
Yoan Moncada 3B CWS. He went undrafted in many leagues and got off to a fast start. Hit .444 with 2 HR’s in the opening series at Houston. Available in 39% of CBS leagues.
James Outman OF LAD. Looks like he will be in CF for the Dodgers against RHP, which should give him plenty of playing time. Good speed/power profile. Available in 44% of CBS leagues.
Pierce Johnson RP COL. Daniel Bard has hit the IL (anxiety) and Johnson got and converted the first save chance for the Rockies. There is no timetable for Bard’s return so there is a chance that Johnson grabs the job and runs with it. Available in 86% of CBS leagues.
AJ Puk RP MIA. Speculation all spring of a committee in Miami, but Puk was up first. Floro worked the 8th in the game and Puk did surrender a solo HR to Pete Alonso, but if you are desperate for saves, double digit saves might happen here. Available in 66% of CBS leagues.
Trayce Thompson OF LAD. Hit 3 HR’s Saturday night. A fast start by Thompson could push him to a larger role in LF for the Dodgers. Available in 66% of CBS leagues.
Reynaldo Lopez RP CWS. Got the save on Opening Day and looks to be in the mix for saves until Liam Hendriks returns. Available in 72% of CBS leagues.
Seth Lugo SP SD. Looked very good in his season debut for the Padres on Sunday. Regular rotation spot on a team favored to go to the World Series could mean plenty of fantasy value. Available in 73% of CBS leagues.
Graham Ashcraft SP CIN. Promising first start from Ashcraft who picked up the win with seven quality innings. Wins could be a struggle on the Reds but he can help in the rest of the categories if his new slider is the real deal to offset his 100mph fastball.
There are some names to keep an eye on early in the season if your team needs some help.
