  1. I’m in a NL only league, any breakout players you’ve identified that can provide value for little money?

    1. Well these players might not be thought of as traditional “breakout” players but here are some players I think can be had for under $5 that will provide value.

Joey Wendle MIA. He is getting first crack to be everyday SS and if he can stay healthy he has a chance to approach 10 HR’s and 20 SB’s with a full time AB’s. He has eligibility at 2B/3B/SS.

Brett Baty NYM. If he can beat out Eduardo Escobar for the 3B this spring, he could provide low to mid teens in HR’s and hit .250+ for a Mets team with a good lineup.

JD Davis SF. He should be the Giants starting 1B this year and get you mid to upper teens in HR’s while hitting around .250

Jake Fraley CIN. Reds are looking to give him the starting LF gig and even though the Reds will more than likely struggle this year, Fraley can give you double digit HR’s and SB’s with a .240ish BA. Just don’t expect 70+ R or RBI. If you get either that will be a bonus.

Mark Canha NYM. Mets starting LF. Health issues last year look to have sapped his power, healthier this year he could be a candidate to hit 20+ HR

Jose Quintana NYM. Mets are good enough that can get double digit wins with a sub 4 ERA and 140ish K’s at the back end of the Mets rotation.

Mitch Keller PIT. He will probably struggle to get to double digits in wins playing for Pittsburgh, but I am looking at him stepping forward this year and getting his ERA near 4 with 140’s K’s.

Steven Matz STL. Former top prospect who hasn’t ever fully put it together. He will bolster the back end of the Cardinals rotation so could have a shot at double digit wins, wont hurt your ERA/WHIP and get you in the range of 140-150 K’s if healthy.

Dylan Floro MIA. He could be in the mix for saves in Miami where the manager has said he wont have a “traditional closer” this year. He got 10 saves last year so he could easily do it again this year.

Brusdar Graterol LAD. Another bullpen where roles appear to be up for grabs. The big man established himself as an upper tier RP last year. There could be a path to saves for the young flamethrower.

      1. Thank you.

One player generating a ton of buzz already this spring in the NL is Jordan Walker STL. With Nootbaar and ONeil heading to the WBC, Walker will get plenty of looks in Cardinals camp this spring and so far he has been impressive. With all the buzz he is not likely a player that can be had in NL only for under $5 but a top prospect to keep an eye on.
